Why the Jaycees Still Matter — Especially Now

In a world that often feels disconnected, divided, or just too busy to care, the idea of joining a local service organization might seem like a thing of the past. But I can promise you — it’s not. Not here. Not now.

Because in Frankenmuth, the Jaycees are still showing up. We’re not just planning races and handing out t-shirts — we’re building friendships, funding fireworks, and making sure this town continues to be a place where people look out for one another.

Being a Jaycee isn’t just about organizing events or wearing a name tag (though, let’s be real, we do love a good branded fleece). It’s about action. Purpose. People.

It’s about showing up — on the good days, the hard days, the hot July days when we’re hauling water coolers across a park at 6 AM — because we believe that community is built, not just inherited. It’s about stepping into leadership roles before you feel ready, and having people beside you who remind you that you are.

Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to serve on committees, chair races, write bylaws, and even plan the fireworks behind the 4th of July. I’ve written press releases at midnight, stuffed swag bags until my hands cramped, and stood at the finish line with tears in my eyes watching strangers become friends.

But my favorite moments? They’re the ones where someone new shows up — nervous, unsure if they belong — and leaves that night feeling like they’ve found their people. Watching that transformation happen never gets old.

Whether we’re fundraising for local schools, hosting community events, running miles for causes we believe in, or just meeting up after Run Club for pizza and laughs, the Jaycees give us something rare: the chance to build something real, together.

And what we build doesn’t stop when the event ends. The funds we raise go right back into Frankenmuth — to the schools where our kids learn, the parks where our families gather, and the organizations that serve neighbors in need. We've helped fund scholarships, Sister City exchanges, beautification efforts, emergency support for local families, and youth programming. We’ve donated to groups like Hairy Houdini Husky Rescue, Frankenmuth Parks & Rec, and so many more — not for recognition, but because that’s what it means to be rooted in service. And yes — we’re also the ones who fund the spectacular Fourth of July fireworks that light up the sky above Heritage Park each summer.

Every shirt ordered, every brat grilled, every race registration — it all makes a difference. It fuels projects that matter. And it reminds us that we’re not just volunteers. We’re builders, dreamers, problem-solvers, and friends — united by a shared belief that small efforts can lead to lasting change.

Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just about events. It’s about impact. It’s about connection. And it’s about legacy — the kind you create by saying yes, showing up, and lifting others as you climb.

If you’ve ever wondered whether one person can make a difference — I can promise you, they can. And if you’ve ever thought about joining us? This is your sign.
