This Independence Day, the streets of Frankenmuth will once again echo with the sound of thousands of footsteps as we lace up for the 50th Annual Volksläufe — The People’s Race.
But before we fire the starting gun, we took a moment last night to honor the many leaders who helped build the foundation this event stands on. The Frankenmuth Jaycees welcomed past race chairs from across the decades to Fischer Platz for an evening of memories, laughter, and gratitude. With beer steins in hand and stories flowing as easily as the music, it was clear: this race has never just been about the miles — it's about the movement.
Since its founding in 1976, the Volksläufe has become one of the most beloved community traditions in Michigan. It welcomes elite runners, stroller-pushing parents, first-timers, and seasoned stein collectors. And behind every single year, there’s been a committee of passionate volunteers — led by a chairperson — who poured their heart and hustle into every detail.
Last night, we celebrated:
Six repeat chairs who stepped up more than once.
Three sets of parents and children who’ve both served as chair.
Decades of dedication that have helped this race evolve — from hand-punched bibs and cotton T-shirts to QR codes, fireworks, foam parties, and finisher medals.
This year’s 50th anniversary celebration brings all of that legacy to life — and then some. With a sold-out field, a full schedule of pre-race festivities, and the return of community favorites like the 2K Fun Run, Marketplace, and Heritage Park fireworks, it’s shaping up to be one for the books.
💥 Join us July 3rd for packet pickup, food, family fun, and fireworks🏁 Race day kicks off July 4th in Heritage Park🎉 Every step supports charitable causes handpicked by our committee
To all who’ve ever volunteered, raced, sponsored, or simply cheered from the sidelines — thank you for 50 incredible years.
Let’s run this town.Let’s celebrate the past.Let’s race into the future.
